Agnijaat Poush 1425, December 2018

Well, last month’s issue came at the onset of the chilly season, and it’s not exactly hospitable in the locale of my secret lair! Here’s the critique for last Poush, and may this Magh be a pleasant one!

Goodbye 2018 andLet the journey begin: Window to India*
These two images are quite cool, and mark a fitting end to the previous year. The first shows a young woman in formal dress, and the next two ringing in the New Year.

Indie Author Speaks – pocket money or more 1
The Authoress notes the problems in finding work as a writer, often outside the scope of writing itself.

We are the big cheez!
A cartoon about arbitrary rules of dress imposed on innocuous items of clothing, rules that nonsensically declare those items obscene. I remember a news article I saw some time ago, I think it was in the Times of India in which a young woman was threatened and burned out of her village home, for not wearing traditional dress when ordered to by her neighbors.

Women vs Men – 4
A strong call for independent thought among women and girls, while being wary of the envy of other women!

Happiness skills…. Who is to be blamed?
A short post with one essential warning to the trusting: Trust, but verify before confiding!

India THEN: Bhasa
Now THIS is cool! This issue discusses the earliest known Sanskrit dramatist whose complete plays have been discovered, and notes his influence on the playwright Kalidasa!

Nature @Kolkata in Poush*
A pretty image showing the pleasant but cooling weather of the season as the planet’s Northern winter solstice approaches!

Nature @Kolkata in Poush:
The Authoress notes the more pleasant shift in weather for her town of residence, with firm hopes that it remains so in February.

Poetry and Movies (Indian mostly)
Here, the Authoress notes the accomplished Urdu poets responsible for earlier Hindi movie song lyrics. I think I’ll be checking for recordings of their works being performed. Should make interesting listening!

Spotlight on – Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Hmmm. A singer of Pakistani descent with a wide vocal range and great singing stamina, which reminds me of the late Freddie Mercury, birth name Farouk Bulsara, with his own abilities as the lead singer of Queen. I was completely unfamiliar with the style of singing Ani Khan performed, though, and find myself amazed at the accomplishments of both men!

Sweet Memories – Green
I too have a preference for green, though I’ve grown wary of green growing things in the wild… I can’t be too sure of not harming the tiny tardigrades, or moss-piglets, in their green felt homes laden with tiny droplets of water!

Theme for Poush: Wisdom
One: An image of a monk meditating beneath a tree, astride a giant lotus blossom. The colors for this one go nicely together, with simple, pleasing use of form.

Two: A quote picture showing a lantern lighting the flame of wisdom. Very good use of typography, color, and form.

Three: 17 word verse on the elusiveness of true wisdom.

Four: 7x2 diamond verse asking whence wisdom comes in those who have it. It’s a question worth asking!

Five: A cherub talks with his mother, on the safety of a wise woman reset by an evil being. Too bad the the evil one was thwarted even when it succeeded!

Six: Advice here on how to approach the world, navigating its hazards wisely.

Seven: Here is a brief discussion on the difference between knowledge, wisdom, and experience, and their relation. My own thought is that these are all interdependent.

Reformers vs Dramabaz
A cartoon on the difference between reforming versus mere tantrum-throwers. Hmm.

Well, that it’s for this eZine critique on Agnijaat for Poush 1425. I hope you enjoy the rest of Magh!

So, in Soruggon…
Talotaa frang. Talotaa kas. Talotaa tranga suulaat!
And I’ll see you again in Falgun!

Both feet grounded: I am not much aware of the political condition of USA, heck I don’t know much about Indian politics, but it seems misguiding people is the latest trick of politicians. Should we punch Nazis?: The Nazis should be punched but not physically by exposing their intentions and the effect of their actions on society! When weaponized church conquers Government: It become

Ashar issue begins with another shot from Golconda fort, the tribute this month has been paid to Sardar Ballabhbhai Patel and I discovered a lot of brand new things about him from this article. Iridescent vignette by Scott Hastie: What a beauty! Ye reap… by saptarchi : Saptarchi is right again. We never learn from past! Fogline by Brieuc Martin Onraet 15: Very interesting piece. It’s hard to explain this piece because it is continuation, it is fun to read, that much is for sure! The dawn of data abstraction by Vasu Srinivasan translated by Raghunandan Kuppuswamy: Very well written and translated piece, I wonder what will happen in the story next month. It finished at a very interesting spot. Magna- End of
